As a sex-positive sexuality educator, I acknowledge sexuality as an important and natural part of people's lives - a site where our personal growth has incredible potential. I have a deep respect for sexual and cultural diversity and encourage people to learn from multiple perspectives, especially in relation to sexuality; and to see sexuality as holistically connected to our health, happiness, self-concept, and human fulfillment. In my classes, trainings and consultations, I provide accurate, current and in-depth information about sexuality, gender, relationships, sexual identity, sexual abuse, diversity, and privilege/oppression. All of my workshops, classes and trainings are interactive and experiential, encouraging active participation and self reflection by participants. Whenever appropriate, I also facilitate skills-building components to help participants enhance their work, their relationships and their lives with new abilities. By integrating multiple levels of awareness and drawing from many disciplines, my goal is to provide the most well-rounded trainings and education possible, asking participants to be proactive learners, rather than passive students. As a feminist educator, I came into the sexuality field aiming to empower women and girls to make healthy sexual decisions and to express themselves in ways that affirm their femaleness and perspectives as women. However, the more I have worked with men over the years, the more I have wanted to engage in conversations with them about how gender norms and identities affect them. I have also worked a great deal with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and am committed to supporting and empowering sexual minorities. I am especially drawn to work that assists people in examining gender roles, personal experience with gender and/or sexism, sexual identity, heterosexism, homophobia and racism and to unlearn the many myths we often carry about sexual minorities and sexuality in general. The more whole we are as sexual beings, the more fulfilled we are as human beings. I believe that healthy sexuality and healthy non-violent intimate relationships are the key to changing the world, one person at a time. |
